Quick Summary

The Pan American Highway is a road network across the Americas, totaling about 30,000 kilometers and often called the longest road in the world.

It runs from Prudhoe Bay in Northern Alaska to Ushuaia in Argentina, covering the full north to south span.

If you drive 8 to 10 hours daily, plan for roughly three months to complete the Alaska to Argentina route.

The Darien Gap is a major challenge, with about 106 km where crossing requires a difficult, dangerous four day hike.

Pack hiking boots and be ready for extreme conditions, since the Darien Gap is among the rainiest areas on Earth.

Have you ever done the Bombay to Goa road trip? Well, after Aamir Khan, Said Ali Khan and Akshay Khanna did it in Dil Chahta Hai, it started featuring on all our bucket lists. But today, we are not talking about this road trip! But something bigger. Longer. Never-ending. Let us fly to the United States of America. The destination is the Pan American Highway. And let us tell you, this is no regular highway.
This is a network of roads stretching across the Americas and measuring about 30,000 kilometres (19,000 mi) in total length. Thus giving it the unofficial title of the longest road in the world! Going north to south, it starts at Prudhoe Bay in Northern Alaska and goes all the way to Ushuaia in Argentina, the Southernmost City in the world. So if you are driving at an average of 8 to 10 hours a day, it will take you close to three months to cover this complete route from Alaska to Argentina. But let us also tell you, that if you are among the select few who want to go on this expedition, then you better carry along your hiking boots too. That’s because, there is a stretch of about 106km, called the Darien Gap between southeast Panama and northwest Colombia, where the only possible way to cross over is a difficult and dangerous hike of at least four days through one of the rainiest areas of the planet. In spite of that, imagine, completing the longest motorable road in the world! That would be an achievement indeed! That’s all for today.
