The Destination
Being the only hill station in the Indian state of Rajasthan, Mount Abu is home to many key tourist attractions. Situated on the southwestern tip of Aravalli Hills, Mount Abu sees a lot of tourism activity, thanks to the calm environs and lush greenery of the hill station.
You can kick off the tour with the Mount Abu Wildlife Sanctuary in the surroundings, which spans over the maximum part of the mountain. The mountain holds immense spiritual importance for Jains and Hindus as it has several temples and shrines.
Whether it is finding relief from the scorching heat in the summers or enjoying the cold weather in the winters, Mount Abu is ideal for visiting both in the summers and winters. The sunset point here offers a panoramic view of the different hues of the sun rays as you watch the sun go down.
Experience Mount Abu
Here is a Mount Abu tour itinerary for you to thoroughly explore every interesting facet of the hill station:
1. Delwara Temples
A key attraction in your Mount Abu trip package will be the Delwara temples. Admirable in their decor, these Jain Temples are extremely fine-looking. Constructed many centuries ago, the Delwara Temples have the most intricate of marble works that you can find. The older of the two temples is known as Vimal Vasahi and is dedicated to the first Tirthankara, Adinath who was the great Jain teacher. Work on the temple began in the year 1031 and it took 14 years for its completion. Just outside the temple’s entrance is the House of Elephants that showcases elephants marching towards the temple. Upon entering the temple, you get to see exquisitely engraved pillars present around the shrine, holding an image of Adinath.
Constructed in 1230 by two Gujarati ministers namely Vastupal and Tejpal, the Luna Vasahi temple is dedicated to Neminath who was the 22nd Tirthankara. The immaculate marble carvings of the temple took 15 years to take form. The carvings of the temple come across as so delicate that the marble seems to almost disappear in some places, adding much to the wonderment of the tourists. Also, another astounding piece of work at the temple is the dangling, multi-layered lotus flower at the dome’s centre. Mount Abu owes a lot of its tourism to Delwara Temples and is a must-visit for any tourist.
2. Nakki Lake
While booking a Mount Abu travel package online, get it customized to include the picturesque Nakki Lake. It is regarded as a holy lake by the Hindus where you can stroll around the lake and catch peaceful glimpses of the hills and intriguing rock formations. The best of the lot is the Toad Rock which looks like a toad ready to jump into the lake.
3. Sunset point
Sunset point is a famous spot in Mount Abu to see the setting sun. People throng to this place in the evening when the sunset marks the end of the day and people indulge in some light entertainment as they relish different delicacies served fresh by the food stalls.
4. Guru Shikhar
The highest point in Rajasthan, Guru Shikhar is a 1722 meter high point that’s located at the northeast tip of the Mount Abu Plateau. The summit can be reached through a road. You can then visit the Atri Rishi Temple there that has stunning views on offer! Make sure your Mount Abu tour package includes Guru Shikhar that’s deemed an important tourist attraction in Mount Abu.
5. Mt Abu Wildlife Sanctuary
The Mount Abu Wildlife sanctuary spans over 289 square kilometers, covering a huge part of the mountain plateau. Wrapped around the town of Mount Abu, you can spot deer, bears, foxes, and leopards when here.
