Plan your visit around the annual dates, which ran from 25 February to 2 March in 2022.

Imagine a festival dedicated to danger - sounds exciting, right? Now, one such festival is celebrated in Kerala, and it is called Theyyam. The festival involves performing dangerous feats dedicated to the divine powers that be. And there are many such feats. In one of them, participants dance wearing a crown - that sounds fine right, but please take into account that the crown is 10-12 metres tall.
Imagine dancing with a crown as tall as 6- 7 people on your head. There are also events involving walking on fire embers, wearing coconut fronds, and performing with burning wicks of fire tied around the waist. The roots of the festival go far as 800 years - and the men are well-decorated for this event which includes about 400 different kinds of dances.
Theyyam displays spirit rituals and gorgeous artwork created by finely dressed devotees who dance and worship gods and celestial beings - and it certainly deserves to be on your bucket list. It was celebrated this year from 25 February to 2 March in 2022 and is an annual festival. Such an interesting story makes us want to travel to Kerala and experience this unique festival.
