The name Lohagad means "Iron Fort," and it was used by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj during his reign. The place rises to an elevation of 1,033 m (3,389 ft) above sea level. It has a beautiful view over the valleys and escarpments of the willowy side of the dam and to the right other dams of the Pawna Lake. The Bhaja and Karla Caves are two millennia old and consist of 2nd century BC intricate carvings, stupas and prayer halls. Pawna Lake
