Kamakhya Temple Package

Plan a trip to the Kamakhya Devi Temple, a revered Shakti Peetha that symbolizes fertility and primal feminine energy.

Perched atop Nilachal Hill in Guwahati, Assam, the Kamakhya Temple is a revered pilgrimage site. It is one of the 51 Shakti Peethas, making Kamakhya Mandir tour popular among devotees across India and beyond. Shakti Peethas refers to the places where the body parts of Goddess Sati, the first wife of Lord Shiva, are believed to have fallen after her self-immolation.

The temple is dedicated to Goddess Kamakhya, embodying the essence of feminine power and fertility. This sacred site holds immense significance in Hindu mythology. It is believed to mark the spot where the yoni (womb) of Goddess Sati fell, thereby infusing the Kamakhya Devi Temple with divine energy and making it a powerful centre of worship.

Thousands of devotees visit the Kamakhya Temple every year seeking spiritual enlightenment and divine blessings, especially during festivals like Ambubachi Mela and Manasha Puja. The Ambubachi Mela, in particular, is a popular time for Kamakhya Mandir tour. It celebrates the mythical menstruation cycle of Goddess Kamakhya, symbolising the fertility of the earth. Going on a trip to Kamakhya Devi Temple would give you the chance to soak in its unique and deeply spiritual atmosphere.

Veena World would be your ideal partner for Kamakhya temple travel. With our travel and tourism company, you can enjoy a convenient tour of this famous temple.

The history of Kamakhya Mandir dates back to the 7th century. It was established by King Bhagadatta Shashanka. It has been mentioned in Kalika Purana and Rudrayamala Tantra as a famous pilgrimage site dedicated to Shakti worship.

The Kamakhya Temple is dedicated to Goddess Kamakhya who is highly revered in Hinduism, especially in the Shakti sect. She is considered to represent the divine feminine energy and is widely worshipped as the ultimate source of creation and power. She symbolizes feminity, fertility and the cycle of life, which elevates the prominence of Kamakhya temple tourism. Devotees commonly visit the temple to seek the blessings of the Goddess for fertility, prosperity and spiritual awakening.

Kamakhya temple darshan is free for all devotees. However, if you want Kamakhya temple tickets for VIP darshan, then you need to book them from the temple counter itself.

Experience the Best of Kamakhya Pilgrimage

Visit the Kamakhya Temple: At the entrance of the Kamakhya Devi Temple, you will be greeted with exquisitely carved motifs adorned with vibrant floral decorations, which reflect the temple’s harmonious blend of natural beauty and artistic craftsmanship. The Kamakhya temple is dedicated to multiple forms of Maa Shakti, namely Chinnamasta, Bagalamukhi, Tara, Bhuvaneshvari, Sundari, and Tripura. The middle chamber of the temple features inscriptions and images of Nara-Narayana. The most sacred shrine of the temple lies in its third chamber, where you would find a yoni-like cleft in the bedrock in the form of a cave. The temple also has a natural spring that flows through the cleft. Kamakhya Mandir tour would give you the opportunity to seek blessings of the Goddess that embodies fertility and rebirth and is a representation of Shakti or feminine energy.

Attend the Ambubachi Mela: This is a huge annual celebration that attracts thousands of sadhus, devotees and spiritual seekers around India, and therefore would be a great time to plan your Kamakhya pilgrimage tour. Four days in June mark the ritual menstrual cycle of the goddess, which represents renewal and rebirth. The doors of the temple stay shut during this sacred time, symbolizing purification and cycle of rebirth, and reopen with grand festivities on the fourth day. Devotees come together to take part in diverse rituals and offer communal prayers while celebrating life and womanhood.

Witness Aarti and Puja Rituals: Your Kamakhya Mandir tour will not be complete without witnessing an aarti here, which is filled with heartfelt hymns and prayers dedicated to Goddess Kamakhya. The vibrant chants, the soothing fragrance of incense, and the glow of flickering oil lamps create an ambience of pure divinity. It gives you the opportunity to immerse yourself in the spiritual atmosphere and strengthen your connection to the divine.

Best Time to Visit Kamakhya Temple

The winter months would be a good time to plan a trip to the Kamakhya Devi Temple owing to the pleasant weather, low humidity and clear skies. The weather in the months from October to February stays comfortable enough for participating in religious ceremonies and even going on sightseeing nearby. The most auspicious time to visit the temple, however, would be during the Ambubachi Mela. This festival typically takes place in the month of June (Ahaar) according to the Assamese calendar.

How to Reach Kamakhya Temple

There are multiple ways to reach the Kamakhya temple.

By Flight: Guwahati International Airport or the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport is the closest airport to Kamakhya Temple. It has regular flight services from several major Indian cities, including New Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, and Chennai. The temple is located about 20 km from the airport.

By Train: Even though Kamakhya town has its own railhead, it would be better to de-board at the Guwahati Railway Station as it is well-connected to most Indian cities. From the Guwahati railway station, you can find an auto or taxi to take you to your hotel or even directly to the temple, at your convenience. The distance between Guwahati railway station to Kamakhya Temple is about 8 km.

By Road: Assam State Transport Corporation (ASTC) operates buses connecting Guwahati with other cities and towns within the state. Many private bus operators also run services to and from Guwahati.
