About Dwarka Tourism

Dwarka, located in the state of Gujarat, boasts of rich history and immense cultural significance. Tourism in Dwarka is largely driven by pilgrims and spiritual seekers. This city is known for its magnificent temples and deep connection to Hindu mythology. It is considered to be one of the auspicious Char Dham pilgrimage sites.

Dwarka magnetizes devotees from across India because of the prominent Dwarkadhish Temple. Also known as ‘the City of Lord Krishna’, Dwarka is considered to be one of the seven oldest religious sites or Sapta Puris of Hindu pilgrimage. It is believed that the family of Lord Krishna once lived in Bet Dwarka, which is an island near the city. Dwarka is also home to Nageshwar Jyotirlinga Temple, one of the 12 Jyotirlingas.

Dwarka Gujarat tourism is characterized by ancient temples, calm beaches and a myriad of cultural gems. Experience The Best Of Dwarka

Your itinerary for a Dwarka tour should include the following places.

Dwarkadhish Temple: When it comes to tourism in Dwarka, the very first place that people generally think about is the grand Dwarkadhish Temple. This auspicious temple is dedicated to Lord Krishna and features Chalukya-styled architecture. The five-storied main shrine of the temple is magnificent to look at, and is constructed of limestone and sand. Dwarkadhish Temple features intricate sculptural detailing that has been done by the ancestral dynasties ruling the region. At the temple, you would find a stunning black idol of Lord Krishna. There are many other shrines present at the temple, which are devoted to Subhadra, Balarama and Revathy, Vasudeva, Rukmini and many others. A visit to this temple is a part of most Dwarka tourism packages.

Bhadkeshwar Mahadev Temple: Lying on the edge of Dwarka, atop a hillock and surrounded by shimmering blue Arabian sea is the Bhadkeshwar Mahadev Temple. This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is believed to be more than 5,000 years old. Bhadkeshwar Mahadev Temple has been constructed near the confluence of rivers Gomti, Ganga and the Arabian Sea. The path leading up to the main shrine from the shore gets submerged underwater during the high tide of the sea.

Nageshwar Temple: A highlight of Dwarka tourism in Gujarat, this temple features a massive 80-foot-tall statue of Lord Shiva. It is one of the 12 Jyotirlingas in India. Unlike other Nageshwar Temples, the statue or the Linga here faces south. The Nageshwar Shiva Linga is made up of stone with small chakras on it and is in the shape of 3 mukhi Rudraksha.

Beyt Island: This is a small island that is located around 30 km from the main town of Dwarka. A visit to Beyt Island is often included in the Dwarka tourism package due to its beauty and religious significance. Beyt Island is located at the mouth of the Gulf of Kutch and is enclosed by white sand beaches, coral reefs and a few temples. There are many fun activities to try out here, including marine excursions and dolphin spotting. Beyt Island holds an important place in Hindu mythology. It is believed to be the home of Lord Krishna when he was the king of Dwarka.

Dwarka Beach: Scenic and beautiful, Dwarka Beach is a perfect place for relaxation and sightseeing. Lying along the Arabian Sea shore, the sprawling expanse of this beach would mesmerize you with its white sands and turquoise waters. There are several temples located near the beach. The Dwarka Lighthouse stands tall at 18 meters and, at dusk, casts its glow over the sands, thereby creating an enchanting moment by the sea.
