Most of the Himalayan mountain range lies in Jammu and Kashmir which makes it an ideal destination for rock climbing and trekking. Besides, Skiing, rafting, paragliding, camping etc. are some activities to partake in while exploring Kashmir. There are treks to low and high-altitude valleys. Some of the best trekking trails in Jammu and Kashmir are as follows:

Khilanmarg Trek

Located in Gulmarg, the trek to Khilanmarg is short and covers a distance of 5 to 6 km. You can enjoy the serene views here by riding the Gondola Cable Car. The star attraction of this trek is the frozen Alpather lake, which is located 8 km from Khilanmarg. There are other activities to indulge in during this trek such as mountain biking, rock climbing, horse riding, jeep safaris and more.

Sanasar Trek

This valley is the hub of adventure sports in the region and the best way to get an essence of this valley is through paragliding. As you glide closely to the ground over its landscapes, the picturesque meadows and a pretty lake give a visual treat to every traveller. The 400-year-old Shankpal temple is the main attraction of this trek. Sanasar is also the starting point of many other treks.

Patnitop Trek

This destination looks like it is out straight from a picture book. The enchanting views with plenty of adventure activities keep the tourists engaged. It is a popular spot among trekkers and tourists alike and is located within 18 km of Patnitop. After a tiring trek, savour the food and get some energy for more adventure and thrills, as this place is famous for Patisa i.e. a delectable sweet. Even though the trek is slightly difficult that demands fitness on the part of trekkers. However, it is worth the hassle because of the scenic views.

Tarsar Marsar Trek

This trek allows you to witness an affair of nature, a soulful one. It is the meeting point of 2 glacial lakes, the Tarsar Lake and Marsar Lake that are located at an altitude of 12,500 and 13,000 feet respectively. This trek will rejuvenate you for the next one. Tarsar Marsar is an easy trek in Kashmir ideal both for beginners and professional trekkers.

Narang Mahlish Trek

This trek offers tourists a diverse scenic view of the twin alpine lakes, Gangabal and Nund Kol which are nestled on the foothills of Harmukh mountain. Another interesting part of this trek is that it has a different return route. The difficulty level of this trail is moderate, suited both for beginners and professional trekkers.

Kolahoi Glacier Trek

This trek is the source point of two major rivers of the region, Jhelum and Lidder. The meaning of Kolahoi Glacier translates to “Goddess of Light”, the glacier is located right below the Kolahoi Mountain. It is one of the highest glaciers in Kashmir with riverbanks, tall pine trees and mountains that surround the beautiful Himalayan valleys. Since the trekking trail leads to one of the highest glaciers in Kashmir, climbers and trekkers must have an extremely high level of fitness.
