France is among the most beloved tourist destinations on the planet. It has something for everyone, whether you want to visit some of the most prominent landmarks and museums of the world, or desire to soak in breathtaking views while indulging in exceptional food and wine. It is home to the Eiffel Tower and the Mona Lisa. In France, you will also find a plethora of historic sites like Château de Chambord and Château de Versailles, which provide a glimpse into the rich heritage and history of the country.

One of the most important steps involved in planning a trip to France is applying for a visa.

Types of Tourist Visas for France

An appropriate visa is necessary for Indians visiting Paris, or some other part of France, as tourists. France tourist visas, or Schengen tourism visas for France, are intended for individuals exclusively interested in tourism and allow you to engage in sightseeing and leisure activities within the borders of the country.

Single-Entry Schengen Tourist Visa: For tourists, this is the most popular France visit visa from India. This visa gives you the freedom to move between 27 European countries. However, it is imperative to remember that with a single-entry visa, you are allowed to enter the Schengen Area only once. After you leave the Schengen territory, even if it is before your visa expires, you cannot re-enter with the same visa. The Schengen visa is valid for a maximum of 90 days within 180 days.

Multiple-Entry Schengen Tourist Visa: This France Schengen visa from India allows you to enter and exit the Schengen Area multiple times within the validity period of the visa.

France Airport Transit Visa: Indian travellers transiting through a French airport en route to non-Schengen countries would need a France Airport Transit Visa. This visa does not permit you to exit the airport or enter France.

The exact type of France visa from India you need to apply for would depend on how long you intend on staying and your reason for visiting the country. For instance, if you are visiting France for the purpose of work, then you would need to apply for a France work visa for Indian citizens.

The short-stay Schengen visa is the most common France tourist visa for Indian citizens. This visa is available for both single and multiple entries. You must confirm the recent visa rules and laws before applying for the visa, as the conditions for France visas for Indian citizens are subject to change.

Visa Application Process

Step 1: Choose The Right Visa

Visit the official France-visas website and identify the exact type of France visa from India you need to apply for, as per your specific requirements and travel plans.

Step 2: Prepare Your Online Application.

Create an account on France Visas and fill out the visa application form. After you are done, a copy of your application form will be sent to you via email. You would also be informed of the supporting documents that have to be submitted along with the visa application file. The cost of your visa shall also be mentioned in the email.

Step 3: Book an Appointment to Submit Your Application File.

After you have completed the online procedure on France-visas, you have to proceed to book an appointment at a nearby VFS Global centre. You can find details about these centres on the VFS Global India website.

Step 4: Submit Your Visa Application File.

You have to attend your scheduled appointment in person at the VFS Global Centre, along with:

  • The letter of confirmation of your appointment
  • Your passport
  • Supporting documents like:
  • Recent Passport-Sized Photos
  • Travel itinerary or flight reservation that confirms entry and exit from the Schengen Area
  •  Proof of travel insurance
  • Proof of Financial Resources
  •  Accommodation Proof like a hotel reservation or a letter of invitation

An agent shall meet you, examine all the original documents, collect the visa fees, and record your biometric data. They shall keep your passport and copies of all your supporting documents to transfer them to the French consular services.

Step 5: Monitor Your Application Status

The typical France visa India processing time is 15-45 days. You can check the status of your application by logging in to your account on the France-Visas website.

Step 6: Collect Your Passport.

You can collect your passport at the centre where it was submitted after the consular services have examined your visa application file. You shall be informed that your passport is available by email or text message.

France Visa Charges for Indians

The fee for a France Schengen Visa and Airport Transit Visa is 90 euros. However, this fee can change with time. Hence, you must check and clarify the up-to-date fee before applying for a France visit visa from India.

Common Challenges and How to Overcome Them

Applying Late: Ideally, it takes about 15 days for a France visa application to be approved. However, there can be delays in the process, due to which you may not get your visa in time. Hence, you should try to apply for a France visa from India at least 3-4 weeks before your travel date.

Incomplete Application Form: An incomplete France Schengen visa application form is one of the most common reasons for France tourist visa rejections. To avoid this issue, you must carefully fill out and cross-check your application form before submitting it.

Not Providing Adequate Financial Documents: Inadequate proof of funds is a common reason for France visa rejection. Hence, you must submit documents like bank statements and payslips along with your visa application.

 Tips for Travellers

Make sure all the information that you provide in your visa application is accurate.

Be punctual and well-dressed for an in-person appointment at the VFS Global Centre.

Be prepared to talk about the purpose of your France visit, your financial support for the trip, and your travel plans in the country.

If you have not received any response at the expected time, do not hesitate to call the consulate to follow up on your application.
