Today we proceed for a 3 hour drive from Leh to Lamayuru, driving along the Indus River that flows through Sham Valley. On reaching Lamayuru, we first set to explore Lamayuru monastery founded by Rinche Zangpo in the 10th century. This gompa located amidst massive mountains is renowned for its collection of carpets, thangkas, and frescoes that have been attracting people over a long period of time. Lamayuru Monastery is believed to be the oldest in central Ladakh. After visiting the Monastery, we pack our backpacks, watch the horses get ready and set off for our first trek on this route. We keep following the stream for some time, till we gradually start moving up our first pass on the trek called Prinkti La (3750m). A short and easy climb takes us across this pass. We then walk down a narrow gorge to reach the small village of Shilla and a final 3km walk brings us to Wanla village (3250m), where we halt for the night. Overnight at a campsite.

We then continue a challenging ascent to reach Kongskil La, where our efforts will be rewarded with spectacular views of the Karakoram and Stok ranges.
