If you are looking for places to see in Geneva, the Jet d'Eau is a great option as it is a magnificent fountain near the outlet of Lake Geneva that pours into the River Rhône. It was initially constructed in 1886 as a safety valve for a hydraulic power network and could reach a height of 30 meters. Soon after, in 1891, the citizens of Geneva recognized the fountain's potential for spectacle, and it was relocated a little farther upstream and used for the first time as a spectacle to honour the 600th anniversary of the Swiss Confederation. The current fountain propels 500 litres of water 140 metres into the air per second at a speed of 200 kilometres per hour. At any given time, there are around 7000 litres of water in the air above the Jet d'Eau.
