Places to Visit

Here is a list of some of the major tourist attractions that you should definitely include in the itinerary of your Chandrapur tour:

Mahakali Temple

Dedicated to Goddess Mahakali, this is one of the most revered Hindu temples in the town. Often referred to as the unofficial icon of Chandrapur, this temple attracts a large number of devotees on a daily basis. In addition to this, this temple holds a huge celebration every year on Hanuman Jayanti. This is also the time when this temple experiences a huge visitor influx. No matter at what time of the year you’re planning a trip, this temple is a place you shouldn’t miss.

Bhadravati Jain Temple

This is another popular place of worship in the idyllic town of Chandrapur. This ancient Jain temple is known for not only its great religious significance but also its elegant sculptures adorning the premises. This temple features a few statues that were unearthed and brought to the surface during construction. All these statues were believed to be centuries old, but their actual age cannot be determined.

Anchaleshwar Mahadev Temple

Situated just outside the main entrance of the Gond Fort, the Anchaleshwar Mahadev Temple is another major attraction in Chandrapur. This temple is believed to be some 2500 years old, which adds to its huge significance for Hindu devotees. There is a popular legend that this temple was built around the toeprint of Lord Shiva. This temple is one of its kind, as this is the only place where the sacred toe of Lord Shiva is worshipped. In addition to this, Anchaleshwar Mahadev Temple also contains a natural Shivaling. Other than this, this temple is also famous for its ornate carvings and embellishments. The inner sanctum features a metal statue of Nandi (Lord Shiva’s sacred bull), and three massive stone bull statues stand in a lake next to the temple.

Tadoba National Park

Tadoba National Park, also known as Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve, is one of the 47 tiger reserves in India. Located in Chandrapur District, it is not just the largest but also the oldest national park in Maharashtra. Since this national park features everything from thick forests to open grasslands and deep valleys, it is the ideal place for maintaining a steady tiger population. Other than tigers, this national park is home to several other species of wild animals. A trip to Chandrapur is always incomplete without a visit to Tadoba National Park. If the weather allows, there is no better way to explore this park than by booking a safari in an open-top Gypsy.

Chandrapur Fort

Built between the 15th and 16th centuries, the Chandrapur Fort is one of the major historical monuments in the town. This fort has walls that are approximately 20 feet high and very sturdy, even in today’s time. It was primarily constructed to provide protection to the Gond monarch and his soldiers from any kind of attack. Babaji Ballal Shah was the one who started this construction, but after his death in 1597, it was continued by Dhundya Ram Shah. If you want to take a closer look at the glorious past of the town during the Gond Empire, you shouldn’t miss this place.
