Nagaland
The Land of Festivals
Nestled in the hills and mountains of the Northeast, Nagaland is one of the smallest states in India. Almost the entire state is hilly and is considered the unofficial rock capital of India. Here, one witnesses a vibrant mix of culture and traditions. The traditional Naga religion regards the Almighty as supreme. The state is home to over 20 major Naga tribes, each with its own distinct customs, traditions, and language.
Nagaland is linguistically diverse. The primary language here is Naga. Among the different Naga tribes, a commonly spoken language is Nagamese, which is a blend of Assamese and various Naga dialects. Women are accorded great respect in Nagaland.
The Hornbill Festival, held in December, showcases the cultural diversity of Nagaland, while the Moatsu Festival, celebrated in May, is a three-day event. The state also hosts music festivals and the popular Hornbill Rock Contest.
An interesting fact about Nagaland is that in the village of Longwa, the chief’s house is divided by the international border — half lies in India and the other half in Myanmar. Tourists can literally stand in two countries at once and experience a unique kind of dual citizenship.
Nagaland is also the birthplace of one of the world’s hottest chilies — the Bhut Jolokia. In the traditional attire of Naga men and women, the shawl holds great significance. These handwoven shawls are a testament to the craftsmanship and artistry of Naga weavers.
The state is also a major producer of bamboo products, traditional textiles, and handicrafts popular among tourists. Naga dance and Tati music are traditional art forms that are widely appreciated here. Nagaland is known for its non-vegetarian cuisine, particularly beef and pork, which are popular among both locals and visitors. Some famous Naga dishes include smoked meat, Naga chili chicken, fermented bamboo shoots, and bamboo fry. The state is also renowned for its use of local spices. A traditional local beverage is rice beer, known as Zutho, Zutse, or Ruhi.
Nagaland played a significant role in the Battle of Kohima during World War II. Several war memorials and museums in the state commemorate this dramatic chapter in history, including the Kohima War Cemetery, which honors the soldiers who died in the Second World War.
So, is this iconic state of Nagaland on your bucket list yet?
Oh! I didn’t know this…

A Journey Full of Enriching Experiences!
We have been travelling with Veena World since 2014. We live in Pune and book our tours through Veena World’s sales partner “Sawari Tours” located on Sinhagad Road.
While planning our tours, we always consider two main criteria — choosing the right destination for the right season, and ensuring it fits within our budget. Both of us love to travel. So far, we’ve done around 20 tours within India and abroad with Veena World.
Due to certain reasons, my wife and I often go on separate tours. Our very first tour was the Singapore-Malaysia tour in 2014. After that, in 2015, we went on the European Wonder tour.
Since then, we’ve travelled to Europe, Spain, Switzerland, Australia, Portugal, Austria-Swiss, Kenya, Turkiye, Bali, Dubai, and most recently, Vietnam in May. Within India, we’ve explored Assam-Meghalaya-Arunachal, Bangalore-Mysore, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Leh Ladakh.
One of the main reasons we continue to travel with Veena World is the well-organised visa process. Over the years, we’ve developed a great rapport with their team.
My wife especially loved Switzerland — so much that she visited it again this year! I personally loved Turkiye, and the jungle safari in Kenya was an unforgettable experience. The hot air balloon safari in Australia was also a truly unique memory.
Every tour is filled with countless unforgettable moments. All the tour managers at Veena World are simply A-one. It’s always fun to listen to their stories and experiences from the many tours they’ve led. Being away from their own families for such long periods must be difficult, but they handle everything with a smile. Hats off to them!
Every tour gives us priceless memories and enriches us with experiences that last a lifetime.

Running of the Bulls
When we hear “Running of the Bulls,” the last scene from the film Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara often comes to mind. This festival attracts thousands of thrill-seeking tourists from across the globe. The event is part of the San Fermín Festival, a unique Spanish celebration that traces its roots back to the 14th century. It was originally held in honor of Saint Fermín.
Today, the Running of the Bulls takes place from 6th to 14th July in Pamplona, located in the Navarre region of Spain. During this daring event, participants—dressed in white clothes with red scarves—run ahead of charging bulls through the city streets. As exciting as it is, this event is also considered dangerous. Still, it continues to fascinate many adventure lovers.
The influx of both domestic and international tourists during this time provides a significant boost to the local economy. The event also offers glimpses into various religious traditions. Parades, music, dance, and cultural highlights like bullfighting are all part of the celebrations.
If you wish to witness this iconic spectacle, visiting Spain during this time is a must!
