5 Corporate Team Building Experiences You Need To Have With Your Team

7 mins. read

When it comes to team building, the only adage that comes to our mind is “Teamwork is less me and more we”. This simple sentiment gets right to the root of teamwork. Yet, as simple as it is, for too many organizations, employees lack the skills they need to pull it together and “get the job done.” Of course, personal goals are important but hey, what are we without the support of people around us?

When people are committed to teamwork, the workplace operates more smoothly, problems are resolved sooner, conflict is less likely to turn toxic, and output is greater.

Despite the benefits, people often refuse to be team players. The first step to team building experience is to get in the outdoors – plan an outing. But what do you exactly do there when you have taken the team outdoor? Fret not because we give you five fully productive ideas which are sure to make your team go all pumped up for the next quarter!

Plan an Outing of Relaxation, Fun and Productivity

Just as how a vacation works wonders personally to get you back in action and release all stress, the same goes for a team. It’s always nice to reciprocate the commitment shown by employees at their work, with a carefully planned corporate team outing, which is sure to make them bounce back with pumped up energy and dedication to do even better. Now, having taken the first step of deciding to go on a team outing trip, it is essential that you get into the details of things and enlighten yourself on how to plan a team outing! The most important part is the venue. Be it a lunch party, a business meeting or a leisure team outing, the venue is of prime importance and is largely responsible in setting the mood for the event. Venue for a team outing has to be tastefully chosen, such as to cater to the liking of every member of the team. A deluxe resort with a pub, thumping music and a dance floor may be desirable to some, but may be looked down upon with a frown by the rest. Care has to be taken to understand the common interest of the majority of the members, and an appropriate venue should be chosen. Let the experts help you out to choose the best corporate team outing venue here!

Once you are outdoors, consider these few ideas of corporate team building games to make it a fun experience:

 1. Let your team don the chef’s hat

Here’s a culinary team-building activity that could end in dessert or disaster -- in a fun way. Creating new dishes together requires creativity and will require everyone to put their team and leadership skills into action. Divide your team into smaller teams, pick a food category, and challenge each team to whip up something delicious. The category could be anything from a traditional dish to pizza and cake. One fun twist you could add? Pick a single ingredient that all teams must use, like potato or cheese. Or, have each team get creative with the name of its dish — the most creative ones win the cake (literally). Tip: Don’t forget to inform about this to the hotel/resort property you’ll be staying at for a seamless experience.

2. Plan a scavenger hunt

Plan a scavenger or a treasure hunt – the fun team activity for the outdoors. Give each team a set of clues that will lead them to the final prize. This game will help you lighten everyone’s mood and make better use of the available time. It will help the participants to know each other and have a lot of fun together! Your team will feel nice and rejuvenated after some fresh air and fun challenges. Be sure to take plenty of silly pictures -- you can even have a slideshow when everyone regroups at the end.

Scavenger Hunt helps majorly to evaluate your team’s problem solving and decision-making skills.

3. Campfire session

A classic activity – this corporate game idea is one that inspires storytelling and improves team bonding. Teams gather in a circle and share their workplace experiences. Along the way, they learn things about each other and relive old memories. You can create a set of words to kickstart the session like ‘first day’, ‘biggest challenge’, ‘memorable achievement’, ‘business trip’ etc. Add them in a fish bowl, invite people to pick up one and get started. This session goes a long way in letting new joiners open up, informal training, and encourage participants to share and establish common goals.

4. Karaoke Night

Know the singers in your team, or the ones whom you never want to hear sing with a Karaoke session. What better way to get your employees to break out of their shells than to have them get up and sing some karaoke? You can even have a contest for best group karaoke performance. This works best for a more extroverted group, and also helps those introverts come out from their comfort zones and enjoy the entertainment.

5. Volunteer for a cause

If you are going to a destination that’s near to a village or a resort that has its own trust for a humanitarian cause, consider participating in it with your team. Giving time to support a good cause isn’t just good for the soul; it’s also a great way for your team members to bond. Place-based volunteering ideas include things like volunteering for cleaning up the roads in that village, educating for an hour at their school, etc. Skill-based volunteering is a cool way to stretch your employees’ expertise: It’s when your team volunteers its time and uses its professional skills -- anything from marketing to app development to writing — to help a nonprofit organization.
