Mysore Palace: Constructed in Indo-Saracenic style, the glorious Mysore Palace features a blend of Hindu, Mughal, Rajput, and Gothic architectural design. This three-story stone structure comprises of marble domes and a 145-foot five-story tower and is surrounded by large gardens. Mysore Palace is the biggest highlight of Mysore tourism in India.  This palace is also known as Amba Vilas is the official residence of the Wadiyar dynasty. Inside the durbar hall of the palace, you can find a central glass dome embellished with intricate designs, along with chandeliers imported from Venice. At the Mysore Palace, you would get to view a throne made of gold, dolls fashioned from marble and wood, chairs carved from crystal and silver, grand pillars gilded and more. 

Mysore Zoo: A visit to this zoo tends to be a part of most Mysore tourism package. It is among the largest zoos in India. The Mysore Zoo is spread across an expanse of 40 acres and is home to more than 1,500 animals. Here you can find Giraffes, Zebras, White Deer, African Elephants, Bears, Gorilla, Chimpanzees, Rhinoceros, Tapir, Otters and more. It also shelters a wide variety of reptiles like crocodiles, alligators, King Cobra and star-studded turtles.

Sand Sculpture Museum: This is a major attraction of Mysore City tourism, and showcases about 150 different sculptures made out of 100+ truckloads of sand. Sand Sculpture Museum is spread across 13500 sq. ft. and displays the rich wildlife and heritage of the city that is displayed in 16 different themes at the museum. Some of the most popular displays of the Sand Sculpture Museum include a giant 15 ft idol of Lord Ganesha and a sculpture of Chamundeshwari. You can also find monoliths of Krishna, Arjuna and Buddha here, in addition to sculptures of Tom and Jerry, Christmas tree and Santa Claus.

Shri Chamundeshwari Temple: This temple is dedicated to Goddess Durga in her fierce Shakti form. Shri Chamundeshwari Temple is perched atop the Chamundi Hills and presents a striking example of Dravidian-style architecture. It is designed in a unique quadrangular shape, and captivates visitors with its historical significance and architectural elegance.

How To Reach Mysore

Mysore is well-connected through road, rail and air.

By Flight: While Mysore does have its own airport, called the Mandakalli Airport, it caters to flights from limited cities. Hence, for most travellers, it would be easier to take a flight to Kempegowda International Airport at Bengaluru, and then hire a cab or take a bus to Mysore from the airport. 

By Train: The Mysore Railway Station is located in the heart of the city. It connects Mysore to many Indian cities, like Mumbai, Chennai, New Delhi and Hyderabad. 

By Road: It is possible to travel to Mysore on a bus from cities like Pune, Mumbai, Hyderabad, and Chennai. People can also drive down Bangalore to Mysore via the four-lane state highway that connects the cities, passing through towns like Bidadi, Channapatna, Mandya, and Srirangapatna.
