About Indore Tourism

Located on the banks of the River Khan and Sarawati, Indore boasts of exceptional architectural splendour. Tourism in Indore is popular for magnificent historical places, forts and monuments, along with the natural beauty and lip-smacking street food of the city. Indore gets its name from Indreshwar Mahadev temple. Locals believe that Lord Indra meditated on this land and led Swami Indrapuri to establish this temple.

The cultural legacy of Indore makes it a prime tourist destination in Madhya Pradesh. Key Indore tourism spots include Rajwada Palace, which is a historical palace built by the Holkars of the Maratha Empire. This intriguing architectural wonder features a rare blend of French, Mughal and Maratha styles. You can also find many superbly carved temples and historic forts in the city.  No matter whether you want to go on a gastronomical adventure or desire to dig into history at old monuments and admire their architecture, Indore is one of the perfect places in India to satisfy your wanderlust. Pitreshwar Hanuman Mandir

Lord Hanuman is usually depicted in a standing position. But Pitra Parvat in Indore provides a unique representation of the Lord Hanuman in a meditative state.  Here you can find the tallest sitting Hauman statue in India.  Hence, it is a major highlight of Indore tourism in India.  The golden Hanuman statue is about 71 feet tall and weighs around 108 tonnes. The walls and pillars of the Pitreshwar Hanuman Mandir are intricately carved. You can enjoy a beautiful view of the surroundings from the Pitra Parvat temple complex. This complex is spread over 5 acres of land, and also features an Ancient Shiva Temple, Bal Hanuman Temple, Bhairav Baba Temple and Mata Anjani Temple.

The Rajwada Palace

The Rajwada Palace was constructed in 1747 A.D. by the founder of the Holkar Dynasty, and features an incredible blend of French, Maratha and Mughal styles of architecture. At the entrance of the palace, you will find a lofty archway with a giant wooden door covered with iron studs. This entrance leads to a large courtyard that is surrounded by arcaded Ganesha Hall and galleried rooms. The Rajwada Palace is a gopura-like monument, made up of stone and timber. The Palace has several corridors, windows and balconies which are beautifully designed. While enjoying a tour of Rajwada Palace, you may even get a chance to catch an engaging sound and light show.
