About Durbuk Tourism
Durbuk is a quaint little village in the Leh District of the Union Territory of Ladakh. Travellers usually stop at this village on their way to the scenic Pangong Tso Lake in Leh. This little settlement is situated at an elevation of 12,500 feet above sea level and is one of the most scenic spots to enjoy the rustic charms of Leh-Ladakh. With just about 900 people living in the area, Durbuk is still fairly untouched by the exploits of mankind which gives a great boost to tourism in Durbuk.
Experience The Best Of Durbuk
A Durbuk tourism package would ideally include a visit to all the places that lie close to the area and are easily accessible by road.
• Shyok Valley - This high-altitude valley is named after the Shyok River which originates in the Rimo Glacier and flows through the valley. This valley is known to be a part of the ancient trade route between Yarkand and Ladakh and finds mention in folklore. Since this valley is not amongst the most visited areas of Ladakh, travellers looking for a surreal experience amidst nature must definitely include it in the itinerary and spend some time here.
• Ser Bhum Camp - The Ser Bhum Camp is another popular attraction which tourists thoroughly enjoy in Durbuk. While looking for information about Durbuk tourism, many tourists who come across this camp are usually quite eager to book a stay here and enjoy the scenic beauty of the valley and relish the delectable food that is offered here.
• Durbuk Market - The Durbuk market is quite popular with tourists who come to this little village on their way to the Pangong Lake. Though not a big market, it offers all kinds of essential goods and services to the small local community. Besides, the wide range of handicrafts available here at cost-effective prices are a key attraction for travellers.
• Durbuk Monastery - This little Buddhist monastery is visited by the locals and is perhaps one of the most peaceful places to sit and meditate and soak in the blessings of Mother Nature.
• Shachukul Monastery - This monastery lies in the Shachukul village in the Durbuk subdivision and is one of the most important shrines of the Digung Kargut Sect of Buddhism. The Shachukul Gustor festival held in the month of July attracts tourists in large numbers and is an extremely important contributor to Durbuk’s travel and tourism efforts.
• Chushul Valley - The Chushul Valley is another key attraction in Durbuk. Perched atop an elevation of 13,000 feet, the Chushul Valley has an important airstrip and military base. This is also one of the five Border Personnel Meeting points between the Indian and Chinese armies. Nowadays, tourists can visit the village without needing prior permission and hence Chushul turns out to be an important part of every Durbuk tourism package.
How To Reach Durbuk
One of the best things about Durbuk tourism is the fact that the place is easily accessible from different parts of the country.
• By Flight: You can fly down to Leh and take a taxi from Leh to reach Durbuk comfortably in about three hours.
• By Train: It may not be very convenient to travel to Durbuk by train as the nearest railway station is Jammu Tawi. After reaching Jammu Tawi you will have to take a bus or hire a taxi to reach Leh, which is over 600 km from the station and then travel to Durbuk which will take another three hours.
• By Road: Durbuk is accessible by road from Leh and you can always hire a taxi and reach Durbuk in about three hours if the road conditions are good. Travelling to Durbuk also requires an inner line permit which must be taken care of while planning the trip.
