About Allahabad Tourism

Allahabad, now officially known as Prayagraj, is a charming city steeped in historical, cultural and spiritual significance. Allahabad tourism is particularly renowned for Triveni Sangam or the meeting point of three rivers, the Ganga, the Yamuna, and the Saraswati.  It is also renowned for hosting the largest Hindu gathering, the Maha Kumbh Mela, on the banks of the Sangam. Maha Kumbh Mela is an important religious occasion that is held here every twelve years and is attended by thousands of pilgrims across the planet. Allahabad city tourism is famed for its spirituality, and the city is celebrated in ancient scriptures as "Prayag" or "Teertharaj."

Prayag or Prayagraj was the ancient name of the city of Allahabad. Pra means “first” and Yag means “devotion”. Prayag also signifies the coming together of the Ganga, Yamuna and Saraswati rivers. Subsequent to the Mughal invasion, Emperor Akbar named the city Ilahabas which meant the “Abode of God”. His grandson, Emperor Shah Jahan, went on to rename the city to Allahabad. Allahabad tourist attractions include its grand temples, fascinating historical sites, bustling markets, beautiful parks, and a lot more.  You can easily plan a tour to this city through Veena World. Experience The Best Of Allahabad

As you plan to go for sightseeing in Allahabad, you must make sure that your itinerary includes the following places: -

The Triveni Sangam: This is the junction point of three rivers - Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati. Saraswati is a mythical river, which is supposed to have dried up millennia ago. Ganga and Yamuna are among the most revered rivers in Hindu mythology. Hence, the confluence point of these rivers has attained quite high religious importance. If you take a boat ride to the gently flowing waters of Ganga and Yamuna, you might even be able to make out the difference in colours of water from the two rivers.

Anand Bhavan:  Built in the year of 1927, Anand Bhavan is the former residence of the Nehru family and has been transformed into a museum that showcases varied artefacts and articles from the time of the Independence movement in India. It is among the most popular Allahabad tourist attractions. Here you can find a number of photos, personal relics, and books that belong to the Nehru family.  There is also a science planetarium located inside the premises of the Anand Bhavan.

Khusru Bagh: An important part of Allahabad tourism, this is a beautiful walled garden and burial complex belonging to the Mughal era. Khusru Bagh houses the tombs of Jehangir’s wife, eldest son and daughter. The important highlights of Khusru Bagh are the intricate Mughal architecture at its entrance gate, the three-tiered tomb of the emperor’s wife, and the elaborate painted stars and floral decorations at the tomb of its daughter.

Allahabad Museum: Allahabad city tourism would not be complete without a visit to this museum. It is located in the famous Chandrashekar Azad Park and is among the national-level museums of India. The Allahabad Museum has a remarkable collection of paintings, sculptures, photographs, and historical artefacts. The most popular attractions of the museum include terracotta from Kaushambi, miniature paintings from Rajasthan, artwork from the Bengal School of Art as well as unique rock sculptures. There is a rock gallery present at the museum which showcases the prehistoric rock arts.
