An Indian Fairyland

A summer vacation is without a doubt one of the most sought-after breaks. Come April and the excitement starts to build; an ideal time for an entire family to head out on a pre-planned vacation. All you need is a cool & pleasant place to break free from the summer heat and stress of life. What better place than Kashmir to keep the entire family happy! India being a hot country, Kashmir has always been our fairyland, a piece of paradise close to our hearts. A beautiful combination of lakes, valleys, & stunning gardens, Kashmir is undoubtedly one of the most picturesque locations in the country. It is famous not just amidst Indians but also foreigners.

Inside of Kashmir is extremely beautiful. We have picked 3 of Kashmir’s most alluring spots.

Srinagar, the state’s winter capital, is the first stop for most travellers to Kashmir; and with its great lake and meandering river, its exquisite pleasure gardens and romantic shikara rides, the old-world charm of its houseboats and the ageless grace of its architecture, the city is a fitting introduction to the many enchantments of the valley. The vast Dal Lake is, of course, Srinagar’s emblematic feature, and its deep waters carry the most popular of Srinagar’s attractions: houseboats and shikaras. Head out on a Shikara ride on Nagin or Dal Lake and soak in breathtaking views of the beautiful mountains that surround the lake. Srinagar is beautiful and your adventure doesn’t just end here. A visit to the Mughal Gardens will definitely prove refreshing; additionally, the old city monuments of Dastgir Sahib, Jama Masjid, Khanqah, and Rozabal Shrine provide a complete sightseeing experience.

Beautiful flowers, snowcapped mountains and the famous Gondola ride makes Gulmarg a hit amongst tourists. Gondola rides in the country are a rarity and the one at Gulmarg is no ordinary ride! It is the highest Gondola ride in the whole of Asia, giving you a perfect view of the snowcapped mountains and its surroundings, so make sure you have your camera all ready to capture those moments!

Situated at the confluence of the streams flowing from Sheshnag Lake and the Lidder river, Pahalgam (2,130 m) was once a humble shepherd's village with breathtaking views. Now it is Kashmir's premier resort, cool even during the height of summer when the maximum temperature does not exceed 25 deg C. Around Pahalgam are many places of interest, and the most beautiful of these is the huge, undulating meadow of Baisaran, surrounded by thickly wooded forests of pine. “Betaab Valley”, on the way to Chandanwari, is an idyllic spot for a picnic. Filmgoers will recognize it instantly as it has been the location of several movie scenes. Aru, 12 kms from Pahalgam, is a picturesque meadow and base point for trekking to Kolhai glacier, Katar Nag, Lidder Watt and Trasar & Marsar Lakes. Pahalgam is also associated with the annual Amarnath Yatra. Chandanwari (2,895 m), 16 kms from Pahalgam, is the starting point of the yatra that takes place every year. If you ever wanted to indulge in adventure activities such as horseback riding, trekking, canoeing, water rafting etc., there’s no better place to do it other than Pahalgam.

This is just the tip of the iceberg. There’s a lot more to Kashmir than what meets the eye. You have to visit Kashmir to admire its real beauty. And once you visit it you would want to keep coming to this paradise again and again. So get ready to explore this crown of India this summer.
